Goodspeed House (Barnstable)

The Goodspeed House at 271 River Road in the Marstons Mills section of Barnstable is a vernacular five-bay Cape cottage traditionally dated to about 1653, making it by far the oldest house in Marstons Mills and one of the oldest in the town. It rises one and a half stories to a gable roof with a center chimney and retains intact early features. The house is associated with Roger Goodspeed, thought to be the first settler of Marstons Mills, who was granted land near the river in 1653; the property remained in the Goodspeed family into the 18th century.
