The Story
Gifford Farm is an unusual Greek Revival double house built about 1850, likely by Chipman Hinckley, with twin entries centered between pairs of windows, a central facade gable, and a one-story Doric porch. The property reached its greatest historical significance after Lorenzo Gifford acquired it in 1919 and developed a large dairy herd with a milk route, slaughterhouse, and smokehouse, making it Marstons Mills' last working farm. From 1926 to 1941 Mrs. Gifford served as postmistress from a building on the premises, giving the farm a role as a village social center; it meets National Register Criteria A and C.
