The Story
This town boundary marker stands at Race Lane on the line between Barnstable and Sandwich, two Cape Cod towns established in 1639. It is a rough granite post about 12 inches wide, 7 inches thick and 28 inches high, inscribed with the letter B on its east side and S on its west side, separated by a horizontal line. The precise date of its erection is unknown. The marker is significant for its association with the history of Barnstable's boundary, which was originally laid out by a Plymouth Colony committee that included Miles Standish.
