Town Boundary Marker (BRN.9060)

This stone town-line boundary marker stands on Great Hill Road in West Barnstable, marking the boundary between the towns of Barnstable and Sandwich. It is a granite post roughly 12 inches wide and 45 inches high, with a vertical line chiseled up the middle; the letter B on the right stands for Barnstable and the letter S on the left for Sandwich. Its exact date of erection is unknown, but the boundary it marks was essentially set when settlers purchased most of what is now West Barnstable from the Native leader Serunk in 1644.
