The Story
The Trinity Block is a three-story early-20th-century commercial building erected in 1923 on the site of the Trinity Methodist Church (built 1869, demolished 1922), designed by the Springfield architectural firm Samuel M. Green Co. Its facade is an unusually ornate display of colorful cast stone and terra cotta, with an exuberant cornice of arches based on abstracted Classical motifs. Representing the consolidation of downtown Springfield as a commercial district, its early tenants included the offices of the Dietz Bakery, a dress shop, tea room and furrier. It meets National Register Criteria A and C.
