Driscoll's Block

Driscoll's Block at 271 Worthington Street in Springfield is a four-story brick commercial building erected in 1894 in a Panel Brick/Romanesque Revival style. It was the first building completed on the site of the disastrous 1893 Worthington Street fire, which destroyed five large blocks. Built for J.R. Driscoll, it housed a bowling alley and billiard parlor and later manufacturing and warehouse tenants including U.S. Rubber Co. and Collins Electric Co., and briefly a Sears & Roebuck store around 1930; its east elevation preserves a unique collection of 20th-century advertising stencils.
