The Story
Built in 1896, the Whitcomb Warehouse is a four-story freestanding brick industrial building in downtown Springfield, designed in the Panel Brick style with segmental arched windows and a patterned brick cornice. It was probably initially associated with the Springfield Cigar Manufacturing Company, the city's leading cigar maker, and in the early twentieth century was sold to the Colby Manufacturing Co., makers of paper rulers. One of the most intact late-nineteenth-century industrial buildings in the city, it is significant under National Register criteria A and C.
