A shortage of housing for the armory's junior officers prompted this duplex, built as two mirrored dwellings under one roof on the edge of Armory Square green. It is the only building on the grounds in the French Second Empire manner, and one architectural survey called it a grace note that lightens the severity of the surrounding arsenal blocks. The quarters were renovated in 2017; they are not open for tours, but the exterior is visible from the National Park Service grounds of Springfield Armory National Historic Site.
