Osterville Baptist Church

The Osterville Baptist Church on Main Street in Osterville (Barnstable) is a Greek/Gothic Revival meetinghouse built in 1837 and dedicated in January 1838. It keeps the traditional rectangular meetinghouse form with a gable-end facade, belfry and steeple, corner pilasters, and pointed-arch Gothic Revival windows. The Baptist society had organized in 1835 when 28 members withdrew from the Hyannis congregation, and Captain George Lovell donated the village-center site. The most prominent historic structure in Osterville's center, it is significant for its central role in village life, its associations with prominent citizens, and its architecture (Criteria A, B and C).
