Hinckley, Nymphus House

The Nymphus Hinckley House at 38 Bay Street in Osterville (Barnstable) is a circa 1780 Federal-style cottage, a traditional five-bay center-entry, center-chimney dwelling rising one-and-a-half stories with a paneled entry and multipane transom, that also retains a period barn. Built for Nymphus Hinckley, a Revolutionary War veteran and descendant of Governor Hinckley (who was later excommunicated from the Centerville Congregational Church in a property dispute), it is a rare surviving example of a Federal-period property in what is now Osterville's intensely developed village center, meeting Criterion C of the National Register.
