The Evans Court Apartment Building (later the Winthrop Apartments) in Springfield's South End was constructed in 1910 to the designs of the firm J. A. Angers & Brother. A four-story, L-shaped, red-brick building in the Classical Revival style with a raised basement and a fine cast-stone Classical Revival doorway, it was the only masonry apartment building on Winthrop Street, standing among earlier wood-frame houses. It is significant in the areas of community planning and development and architecture as a well-preserved example of the period's apartment construction reflecting Springfield's residential growth.
