MassachusettsThe Baystate Corset Block, at 395-405 Dwight Street and 99 Taylor Street in Springfield, is a large four-story brick building begun in 1874, with a Taylor Street facade added in 1884 featuring panel-brick stilted segmental window arches and a corbeled cornice, and a Dwight Street facade rebuilt in 1918 with brick piers dividing triple glazed bays. Construction began with two woodworking tenants; P.P. Kellogg bought the building in 1883 for his paper products business and added the Taylor Street wing in 1888. From 1895 to 1920 it was occupied by the Bay State Corset Company, founded in West Brookfield in 1884 by C.L. Lomstead and Myron W. Sherman and later one of the largest corset makers on the continent, producing up to 5,000 corsets daily across cutting rooms and over 400 sewing machines. The building is significant for its associations with these two local manufacturing firms and because its phased growth and development are clearly revealed in its well-preserved design, meeting National Register Criteria A and C.

The Baystate Corset Block at 395-405 Dwight Street in downtown Springfield is a four-story brick commercial building erected in 1874 by Marsh & Robinson and later enlarged. From 1888 to 1920 it was home to the Baystate Corset Company, which had been founded in West Brookfield in 1884 and grew into one of the nation's largest corset manufacturers, using the upper floors for cutting and rows of sewing machines to ship products across the country. Its front facade was redone in 1918. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
