Twin Sisters of Nauset Lighthouse (EAS.902)

The 'Twin Lights' are two of the Three Sisters of Nauset, a set of small wood-frame lighthouse towers in Eastham on Cape Cod. Built in 1892, these two-story shingled, lapstrake towers were part of a trio of portable wooden lights that replaced an 1838 set of three brick towers threatened by the shifting Nauset bluffs. In 1911 two of the towers were sold and moved to be used as cottages, and in 1920 they were joined by a connecting cottage known as 'The Towers'; the National Park Service acquired the property in 1965, demolished the connecting cottage, and planned to move and restore the lights near their original site within the Cape Cod National Seashore. They are significant for their association with the development of navigational aids in Massachusetts and as part of the distinctive triple-light system at Nauset.
