Nauset Beach Light

Nauset Beach Light stands 66 feet above the water on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at Eastham on Cape Cod. The current structure is an 1877 cylindrical cast-iron tower that was moved from Chatham in 1923 to replace three earlier wooden towers on the eroding site; it worked in concert with the twin light at Chatham and the single Highland Light at Truro. Its half-red, half-white paint scheme serves as a distinctive daymark, and the station also retains an 1892 brick oil house with cupola and an altered 1875 Gothic Revival keeper's house. It is significant for its associations with the development of navigational aids in Massachusetts and as a good example of a late-19th-century light station on an earlier site.
