The master armorer supervised the technical side of gun-making at the national armory, and this Greek Revival house was put up for him in 1833 immediately north of where the Main Arsenal would rise. Around 1880 it was rolled roughly 300 feet north, rotated, and set down on the opposite side of the street. Over the armory's remaining ninety years it did duty as an infirmary and as officers' quarters, lost its rear section by about 1900, and was remodeled by the WPA in 1937. It now stands within Springfield Armory National Historic Site.
