History
John Percival (1779-1862), nicknamed "Mad Jack," was a United States Navy officer from Barnstable County who went to sea as a boy and rose through the ranks over a long career. He is best known for commanding the frigate USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides") on a celebrated round-the-world voyage from 1844 to 1846. He retired to West Barnstable, where he is buried.
