The Story
The Santuit Post Office in the Cotuit-Santuit section of Barnstable is a diminutive 1.5-story Gothic Revival cottage built about 1846-48, with a steeply pitched gable roof, flush board siding, and an oriel in the second-story gable. It served as the village post office from about 1846 until the 1970s, associated with the growth of Cotuit Port as a village center, after which it was converted to a private dwelling. It is a good example of early Gothic Revival architecture recalling the seaside resort cottages of the mid-19th century.
