Crocker, Zenas Homestead

A small, well-preserved cluster of fine 18th- and 19th-century houses set at an important Cape Cod crossroads, this district formed the original core of the Cotuit village settlement at Santuit. Georgian, Federal, and a single Italianate dwelling reflect the area's early prominence as an inland agricultural and commercial center, with a tavern, an early library, and a post office once operating from these homes. The buildings are strongly associated with the hard-working Crocker family, who settled the village beginning in 1739 and occupied the houses into the 20th century, and the district is significant for its ties to settlement, commerce, and this notable local family.
