History

Susan Glaspell (1876-1948) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright, novelist, and journalist who, with her husband George Cram Cook, founded the Provincetown Players, the first modern American theater company. She is often described as America's first important modern woman playwright, and her one-act play 'Trifles' (1916) remains a staple of American drama. Glaspell, who spent much of her life on the outer Cape, is buried in Snow Cemetery in Truro among other artists and writers of the Provincetown colony.
