The roadside stories worth pulling over for.

The Story

A contributing property in the Mill Way Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Strung along Mill Way, Barnstable Village's main route to its harbor, this cluster of roughly fifteen wood-frame houses dates from the mid-eighteenth to the late nineteenth century and reflects the community's maritime economy. Beginning with a tidal gristmill established around 1657, the area supported shipbuilding, saltworks, and fishing, and many of the houses were built by men who made their living from the sea. The buildings provide traditional examples of the Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, and Colonial Revival styles.
