Built about 1850, the ice house is a 1.5-story shingled structure whose gable roof is topped by a cupola, flanked by one-story woodshed wings that retain their original swinging doors. It is one of several well-preserved historic outbuildings on the property, which centers on a late Georgian house of 1783 built by the Crocker family and later owned by Boston merchant Samuel Hooper (its first summer resident) and the Lowell family. The farmstead, one of the two best preserved in the town, is significant for its architecture and its associations with Cotuit's agricultural and summer-resort history, meeting National Register criteria A, B, and C as part of the Barnstable Multiple Resource Area.
