The Story
The Captain Alexander Crocker House at 358 Sea Street in the Hyannis section of Barnstable is a clapboarded Italianate-style house built circa 1865, with an attached barn topped by a central cupola. It displays a bracketed cornice, paneled corner boards, a bracketed entry hood, a flanking bracketed bay window, and a round-arched gable window. It was the home of Captain Alexander Crocker (1843-1890), a prominent local sea captain who was master of deep-water and coasting vessels including the schooners New York, Bay State, and Western Starr. It is considered one of the finest unaltered examples of the Italianate style in Hyannis and meets National Register criteria B and C.
