The Story
The S. Alexander Hinckley House at 151 Pine Street in Hyannis (Barnstable) is a full one-and-one-half-story, wood-shingled Cape Cod cottage of the Colonial (Georgian) period, built about 1710. With a five-bay center-entry facade and central chimney, it is notable because well-preserved 18th-century houses are rare in Hyannis. In the late 19th century it was owned by S. Alexander Hinckley and his wife Ora; after his death in 1908, Ora served as librarian of the newly relocated Hyannis Library for some 35 years until her death in 1943.
