Laurel Hall

Laurel Hall at 72-74 Patton Street in Springfield is a four-story, sixteen-unit apartment block built in 1914 in the Classical Revival style, designed by architect Bruno Wozny (1873-1923) and built for real estate broker William H. Cohen for about $25,000. Constructed of yellow brick with brownstone trim and a detailed metal cornice with floral reliefs, its facade uses light and dark brick patterning to emphasize verticality and highlight the central entrance. It is significant as a representative, well-detailed example of small-scale early 20th-century apartment house construction and as one of a few surviving apartment blocks from Springfield's 'Apartment Era' in the industrially developing North End. It meets National Register Criteria A and C at the local level.
