The Story

The Wianno Club occupies a former hotel built in 1887 as the Cotocheset Hotel, a large Shingle Style summer resort building on Nantucket Sound in Osterville, believed to have been designed by architect Horace Frazer. Constructed as part of the Osterville Land Company's development, it features a mansard roof, overhanging gambrel cross gables, and polygonal towers. The Wianno Club purchased the hotel in 1916 and added Colonial Revival elements between about 1916 and 1920; it survives as one of the few large Shingle Style hotels representing the early period of Cape Cod's development as a summer resort area.
