Smith, Matthias House (BRN.1062)

The Matthias Smith House at 375 Cedar Street in West Barnstable is a story-and-a-half Cape built circa 1760, sheathed in unpainted wood shingle, with a central front door topped by a two-light 'bull's eye' transom. Originally a three-quarter Cape, it was enlarged to a full Cape in 1966. It is significant as an evolutionary example of a mid-18th-century West Barnstable farmstead, retaining its main house and numerous outbuildings including a barn, tool house, and chicken houses; the property descended from Matthias Smith (born 1738) through his son Isaac and later owners.
