History

Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Cemetery on Grove Street in Sandwich was established in 1865 to serve the town's growing Catholic community, many of them Irish immigrants drawn to work at the celebrated Sandwich glassworks. It lies within a local historic district and reflects the arrival of a Catholic parish population in a town whose older burying grounds were Congregational. Its monuments are characteristic of a late-19th-century Catholic cemetery.
