The Sandwich Quaker community, one of the oldest in America, was granted land on Spring Hill in 1694 for a meetinghouse and burial ground, having first gathered in Sandwich in 1657 despite Puritan persecution. In keeping with Quaker plainness, the old burying ground has no ornamented headstones.

The Old Burial Ground beside the Quaker (Friends) Meetinghouse on Quaker Road in East Sandwich belongs to the Sandwich Monthly Meeting, which was gathered in 1657 and is regarded as the oldest continuous Quaker meeting in North America; the town granted the Friends land on Spring Hill for a meetinghouse and burying ground in 1694. In keeping with the Quaker testimony of plainness, the earliest graves were left unmarked by headstones. It is a contributing property in the Spring Hill National Register historic district.
