House at 315 Rt 6A

Sandwich · Barnstable County

The places that make Massachusetts, Massachusetts.

The Story

A contributing property in the Spring Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. Set in the uplands of East Sandwich on Cape Cod, this district preserves a working agricultural landscape of salt marshes, cranberry bogs, open fields, and mill ponds framed by Route 6A and Spring Hill Road. Its resources range from the mid-17th-century Wing Fort House through farmhouses, burial grounds, and cranberry-related structures, with a period of significance extending into the mid-20th century. The four cranberry bogs, with their dikes, ditches, and intake sheds, together with the surrounding farmsteads, document the town's long history of agriculture and cranberry cultivation. The scenic interplay of marsh, bog, and upland farmland is central to its historical and architectural value.
