History

The Methodist Society Burial Ground on Main Street in Falmouth grew out of land given to the Methodist Episcopal Church in the 1810s, with the cemetery dating to about 1814. It later became associated with the adjacent town poor house, where many indigent residents were buried, and the combined site is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1998) as the Poor House and Methodist Cemetery. The burying ground has been the focus of recent community restoration efforts.
