Jenkins, Joseph House

The Joseph Jenkins House at 310 Pine Street in West Barnstable is a 2 1/2-story, 4-bay Federal-period 'three-quarter house' with a low-pitched gable roof, off-centered chimney and front door, and wood-shingle cladding. Shouldered posts used in its construction indicate an 18th-century date. The front door has wide vertical trim and a triangular pediment with a five-light transom. It meets National Register Criteria A, B and C as a well-preserved homestead reflective of West Barnstable's early history and agricultural development, and for its association with the Jenkins family, who in the 1800s developed the area for farming and livestock, took part in the village's religious, agricultural, social, and political life, and were involved in the local cranberry industry that grew in the later 19th century.
