The Story
The Captain Allen H. Bearse House at 48 Camp Street in Hyannis is an Italianate dwelling built in 1857, one of the finest and best-preserved examples of the style in Hyannis, a village noted for its Italianate sea captains' residences. It presents a three-bay gable end to the street and is articulated by a bracketed cornice, wide corner pilasters, a bracketed porch, and a side entry, with a 1.5-story rear ell. It was the home of Captain Allen H. Bearse, a deep-water sea captain from a prominent seafaring family who also had mercantile interests in Hyannis.
