Adams, Margaret Cottage - Highland Club House

Truro · Barnstable County

The places that make Massachusetts, Massachusetts.

The Story

A contributing property in the Truro Highlands Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. Perched on the high coastal plateau of North Truro on outer Cape Cod, this district grew up around Highland Light, the site of Cape Cod's first lighthouse. Over the late 19th and early 20th centuries it developed as a summer resort and recreation destination anchored by the Highland House, built in 1907, its guest cottages, and the Highland Links, an important early example of an American links-style golf course laid out in 1898 across the rolling sand and clay hills. The organic, informal layout along Highland Light Road, shaped by the dramatic clifftop topography and sweeping ocean views, unites the lighthouse, resort, and golf course into a distinctive coastal landscape.
