About this walk

A spinster's fortune, an Olmsted-designed arboretum of a campus, and a millpond called Paradise — Smith is the largest privately endowed women's college in America.

Every campus tells one story to visitors and another to itself. This walk covers both. Four stops over 0.9 miles, about 50 minutes of walking. The story for each stop plays as you arrive, so nothing has to be looked up and nobody has to be followed.

Northampton has five MassRoam tours and no two cover the same ground. It works as well at eight in the morning as it does at dusk. Stop for coffee, pick it back up.
