History

Laid out in 1884 on the bluff above the Connecticut River and the Holyoke dam, this park was originally called Prospect Park; the Olmsted Brothers firm later shaped its five original acres. In 1939 Holyoke — by then home to one of the largest Polish communities in New England — renamed it for Casimir Pulaski, the Polish nobleman killed fighting for the American cause at Savannah. At its center a small garden enclosed by wrought iron holds a boulder set with a bronze Pulaski plaque. The park was listed on the National Register in 2004.
