History

The Knox Trail Marker in West Springfield commemorates the route of Henry Knox's famous 'noble train of artillery,' which in the winter of 1775–76 hauled some 60 tons of captured cannon by ox sledge from Fort Ticonderoga across Massachusetts to the siege of Boston. A series of these markers, dedicated in the 1920s, traces the historic trail across the state. The West Springfield marker stands on the Town Common Park.
