MassachusettsHolyoke City Hall, at 536 Dwight Street, is a monumental free-form Gothic-style public building designed in 1871 by C. B. Atwood of Boston and completed in 1875, with Henry F. Kilburn of New York serving as architect for the final two years and designing the tower and interior finish. Built of quarry-faced Monson granite with a slate roof, it features spires, turrets, pointed arches, and buttresses, and is dominated by a central tower rising 225 feet above the sidewalk. Its most noteworthy interior feature is the great hall on the second floor, measuring 113 by 75 feet, seating about 1,300, and lit by ten large stained-glass windows depicting themes of commerce, music, and industry. Upon completion at a cost of roughly $372,000, it was said to be the finest public building in Massachusetts west of Boston, and it remains virtually unaltered and in continuous use as a landmark of the city; it is significant under the area of architecture.

Holyoke City Hall is a Gothic Revival landmark whose construction began in 1871 to a design by Charles B. Atwood, with the work later taken over by architect Henry F. Kilburn and completed in 1876 at a cost of about $500,000. Built of granite quarried in nearby Monson, it features pointed-arch windows, Gothic buttresses, and a banded slate roof. Its main tower rises about 220 feet and houses a bell weighing over 4,000 pounds, along with an 1877 Seth Thomas clock.
