This district is a cohesive collection of early 20th-century Revival-style apartment blocks in Springfield, all built for apartment living and still serving that use since their construction. It is significant for its association with the city's residential development and with the prominent local developer-builder team of Gagnier & Angers, representing the largest concentration of apartment buildings the firm erected in Springfield. Its 23 contributing buildings form the intact core of a once-larger neighborhood, much of which was demolished during 1980s urban renewal; the survivors remain remarkably unaltered. The period of significance extends from 1914 to 1961.
