Denison, Thomas A. House

The Thomas C. Page House at 105 East Street is the largest and most imposing structure in a Chicopee Falls neighborhood of modest one- and two-family houses, and a remarkably intact example of the Queen Anne/Stick Style in a city with only a handful of such buildings. The three-story house has an irregular plan with an off-center entrance pavilion surmounted by a square tower with a pyramidal roof, a stickwork front porch, and a lavish variety of materials and ornament including a brick-sheathed first floor with terra cotta panels, clapboards, and fishscale shingles above. Built in the 1870s for Thomas C. Page, a leading local industrialist who moved the Lamb Knitting Machine Company to Chicopee in 1867 and helped develop the city's textile, machine tool, and bicycle industries, the house was sold in 1909 to the Belcher Lodge of Masons, who added rear wings for meetings. It is significant under Criteria A and C at the local level for these associations and as one of the finest houses of its period and style in the city.
