Craft's Building

A contributing property in the North High Street Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. A concentration of mid- to late-19th-century commercial buildings along High Street in Holyoke, representing the largest, most coherent surviving group of such buildings from the city's early years as a planned industrial community. Maple and High Streets were being built up with frame commercial buildings by 1849-1850, soon replaced by brick blocks, as Holyoke, laid out with the most ambitious canal system of any Massachusetts mill town, grew into a world-renowned paper manufacturing center. The district is significant as the highest-concentration commercial survival from Holyoke's formative decades as an industrial city.
