It consists almost entirely of four-story brick multiple-unit tenement blocks, predominantly Georgian Revival with some Jacobethan and Tudor Revival examples, unified by consistent scale, massing and materials and set along landscaped, tree-lined streets including the gently curving Summit Street. Most of the buildings were designed and built by the prolific French-Canadian firm of Gagnier and Angers, whose work contributed to Springfield's reputation as the "City of Homes."
