Caledonia Building

The Caledonia Building at 185-193 High Street is a Victorian Second Empire brownstone-trimmed commercial building constructed in 1874 by Roswell P. Crafts, and originally called the Crafts Building. It has a sloping mansard roof with slate tiles, projecting pavilions, and ornamental brownstone columns and lintels, and housed offices and commercial tenants. Crafts, who became Holyoke's second mayor in 1877, sold the building between 1879 and 1885 to the Caledonian Benefit Club, a Scottish benevolent society organized in 1879, which met in a great hall on the upper floors.
