The Story
A contributing property in the Hinckley's Corner Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. In the South Wellfleet area known as Paine Hollow, this small district is a cluster of three early-19th-century Cape Cod houses and their outbuildings, representative of the modest, utilitarian homes built by the town's early settlers. Once dependent on subsistence farming, residents turned to maritime work—especially shellfishing—tied to the nearby landing at Blackfish Creek, and later accommodated the summer tourism that grew after about 1890. Associated outbuildings such as an oyster house, a former store, and workshops reflect these changing livelihoods.
