Sears, Jacob Memorial Library

The Jacob Sears Memorial Library in Dennis (East Dennis, on Quivet Neck), Barnstable County, is a Shingle Style building constructed in 1895 through the generosity of Jacob Sears, a lifelong resident of Quivet Neck. It was designed by the Boston architectural firm of Rand & Taylor (later Kendall, Taylor & Company) and built under the supervision of contractor J. M. Kellaway, with construction begun on September 3, 1895; the library portion opened on July 3, 1897. The building served a dual function, housing both a lending library and a memorial hall. The nomination found it a well-designed and well-preserved example of the Shingle Style, significant on the local level with a period of significance extending from 1895 into the 1950s.
