The Pilgrim Monument, built between 1907 and 1910, is a 252-foot granite campanile inspired by the Torre del Mangia in Siena, Italy, and is the tallest all-granite structure in the United States. It commemorates the Pilgrims' first landfall at Provincetown in 1620 and the signing of the Mayflower Compact; President Theodore Roosevelt laid the cornerstone and President William Howard Taft dedicated the completed tower.
