New Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Provincetown was established in 1860 as the town's newer 19th-century burying ground, opened as Provincetown grew into one of the busiest fishing and whaling ports in New England. It is a contributing property in a National Register historic district and holds the graves of many of the mariners and their families who built the town's maritime economy. Its monuments reflect the Victorian styles that had replaced the plain colonial slates of Provincetown's older grounds.
