Marconi Wireless Station - Antenna Tower (CHA.933)

A contributing property in the Marconi--RCA Wireless Receiving Station, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. A wireless communications complex on the elbow of Cape Cod in Chatham, built in 1914 by the J. G. White Construction Company for the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America to receive transatlantic point-to-point messages between the United States and Europe. The site was chosen for its topographic stability and unobstructed access to the Atlantic, and control passed to the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) after 1919. Comprising thirteen contributing buildings and structures, the station is significant in communications and architecture at the local, state, and national levels, with a period of significance of 1914 to 1944.
