History

The Captain Ebenezer Harding Linnell House in Orleans was built for one of Cape Cod's noted 19th-century clipper-ship masters. Ebenezer Linnell commanded the clipper Eagle Wing and set fast passage records in the 1850s before dying at sea in 1864. After visiting Marseilles, France, he had a neoclassical villa he admired there reproduced on his Orleans property, completing the home around 1860. The house survives as a landmark associated with the Cape's clipper-era maritime history.
