History
The Old Indian Meeting House at 410 Meetinghouse Road in Mashpee, dated to 1758, is regarded as the oldest Native American church building in the eastern United States. It was used by the Mashpee Wampanoag as a Christian church and also served as a school and gathering place, with an adjacent burial ground established in the late 18th century. The Wampanoag first built a church in Mashpee in 1670, followed by a second meeting house in 1684. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
