Higgins, Jedediah and Azubah Paine House

The Jedediah Higgins House on Higgins Hollow Road in Truro is a typical 19th-century, one-and-a-half-story 'full Cape' house with a central chimney, measuring about 29 by 34 feet and facing south, of post-and-beam construction on brick footings. Its nearly symmetrical facade has a central entry flanked by two windows on each side, clapboarded on the south and shingled elsewhere; interior finishes are largely early-19th-century, with wide-plank floors, raised paneling, and Federal-style sunken panel work, and later 20th-century changes (a rear shed dormer and a small ell) are identifiable and respectful of the original. Now within Cape Cod National Seashore, it is significant as a well-preserved representative of the 19th-century Cape Cod style double house and as a reminder of the agricultural settlement that once dominated the Truro countryside.
